How to Tune up Your Riding Mower

At the outset of the mowing season, you’ll want to ideally conduct a tune-up on your unit, providing you conducted some lawn mower reviews at the end of the previous season. Commence by warming up the engine. Put plenty of gas in the fuel keg to get your lawn mower running. Following that, start up your engine and allow it to run until it runs out of gas, then detach the spark plug wire so that the engine can’t start unexpectedly.

To change the oil follow this very simple procedure. First be sure you pay for the right type of oil for your new oil, then clean off all grime around the upper section of the oil tank (the place you fill your machine with oil). An old toothbrush comes in handy for this task. Unscrew and take out the dipstick.

Then, find the lower side of your oil tank – a plug that is found on the bottom of your machine. You should remove the old oil; unscrewing this plug can do exactly that. Prop up your machine correctly with rubble, giving you with a tilt that will grant you access to the plug. Place an oil pot or similar container under the plug to collect the oil.

Unscrew the plug (you could require a socket wrench) by turning counter-clockwise and let all of the grimy oil pour out. Of course, you do not want to be wearing your Sunday best on when doing a lawn mower tune-up – rags and overalls are you best option, but an old shirt will be adequate. Screw the drain plug back on with a clockwise action. Don’t over-tighten, you will need to have the means to remove it quickly next time you need a lawn mower tuning-up. As an alternative to over-tightening whenever you work on your machine, it’s better to fasten without excess, and then periodically check during the mowing season to make sure that it hasn’t come loose through vibrations.

If your machine posseses an oil filter, replace it as an important part of the lawn mower tune-up and clean the gasket with which it has contact. Take away the blocks so that your machine is even again then fill the gas tank with new oil to the proper level, reapplying the cap and dipstick. Lastly, refill the mower with gas and re-connect the spark plug wire.

At this stage in the lawn mower tune-up, it’s time to start up the machine. Allow the engine to idle and ensure there are not any oil leaks. You’re finished! Now you have properly tuned up your mower it is going to work with full-force on your behalf for the remainder of the season.
